Machiel Botman, fotografo olandese…così mi piacerebbe scattare!

Machiel Botman was born in 1955 in Vogelenzang, The Netherlands. A key figure in Dutch photography, Botman has always photographed as a way to understand life. Self-taught, Botman works instinctively, photographing in black and white, creating images that are as much about himself as who, what and where he photographs. Ever since he made his first photograph at the age of 12, photography has always been a very intimate experience for Botman. He photographs the people and places in his life that affect him. From the portraits of his friends and relatives to the pictures of strangers he meets to the gestural images of the landscapes he passes through, Botman’s images evoke a world of interconnectedness without relying on overly poetic sentiment.

Machiel Botman è nato nel 1955 a Vogelenzang, in Olanda. Una figura chiave, all’interno della fotografia olandese, Botman ha sempre fotografato come metodo per comprendere la vita. Autodidatta, Botman scatta istintivamente, in bianco e nero, creando immagini che riguardano molto di più lui stess, che i soggetti e i luoghi dove fotografa. Da quando ha iniziato a scattare all’età di 12 anni, la fotografia per Botman ha sempre rappresentato un’esperienza molto intima. Fotografa persone e luoghi della sua vita che lo coinvolgono. Dai ritratti dei suoi amici e parenti alle immagini di estranei che incontra, ai paesaggi che attraversa, le immagini di Botman evocano un mondo di interconnessioni, senza affidarsi a sentimenti eccessivamente poetici.
